Plea Bargain: Emefiele's Family Members Withdraw Suit Against DSS, AGF

A judge in the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, Justice Nicholas Oweibo has said that the Federal Government has shown signs of not being law-abiding and has no respect for the court.

Oweibo stated this while striking out the firearm possession charge against the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

The charge was brought against Emefiele by Department of State Services, DSS.

Justice Oweibo, struck out the charge for want of diligent prosecution, noting that the Federal Governnment had shown signs of not being law-abiding and had no respect for the court.

Naija News recalls that in a bench ruling after hearing arguments, Oweibo held that the Federal Government failed to establish why Emefiele should not be granted bail.

Consequently, the defendant is admitted to bail in the sum of N20 million with one surety in like sum,” he ruled.

The judge then remanded Emefiele in prison custody against the request of the prosecution that he be remanded in DSS custody.

However, DSS men refused to allow prisons officials take Emefiele, leading to a free-for-all.

Eventually, DSS took Emefiele away, causing reactions among many.
