Colombia has qualified for the quarter-finals stage of the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup after knocking out Jamaica earlier today, August 8, 2023, with a 1-0 victory.

The vibrant Colombian women will face the Lionesses of England who knocked out the Super Falcons as they continue to push to rewrite their history at the Women’s World Cup.

During Colombia vs Jamaica clash, Catalina Usme, the captain of Colombia, curled in the game-winning goal in the 51st minute.

Usme’s goal against the Jamaican women was the first goal the team conceded after 321 minutes of football. Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t respond to it until the game ended.

In place of suspended full-back Manuela Vanegas, Ana Maria Guzman made her first World Cup appearance.

Ahead of the game, Colombian media were very concerned over the absence of Vanegas, who scored the game-winning goal against Germany.

However, they had no reason to worry because Guzman provided the assist from the left, which Usme intercepted and buried in the far corner.

The lone goal was enough to send Colombia to the last eight of the tournament, the stage of the World Cup which has proven impossible for them to go beyond in the history of the competition.

In this year’s edition, they will have England, the European champions who have not recorded any defeat at the 2023 World Cup, to contend with. The matchup is scheduled to take place at Sydney’s Stadium Australia at 11.30 BST on Saturday.
