Nnamdi Kanu Will Be Freed But... - Reno Omokri Tells Igbos What To Do

Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has averred that those complaining about the increase in the University of Lagos State tuition spend such amount on phones.

Naija News recalls that the management of UNILAG had increased fees for undergraduate students in the institution.

This was contained in a statement dated July 20, 2023, by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, UNILAG branch, following a meeting with the top management staff.

The students of the institution previously paid N19,000, but the management has fixed new fees at N190,250 for students studying medicine, while for courses that require laboratory and studio, students are to pay N140,250.

Reacting to how many Nigerians have continued to lament over the increase, Reno questioned how electronic gadgets would be more expensive than tuition.

According to him, many students in Unilag drive more luxurious cars and use better phones than lectures, stressing that Nigeria has one of the lowest tuition on earth.

He added that anyone who cannot afford the new tuition fee should simply go to the neighbouring countries.

He tweeted: “Nigerians are complaining about the increase in Unilag’s tuition fees from ₦19,000 to ₦190,250. Many of those people complaining use phones that cost more than ₦190,250. How much is an iPhone 14? About ₦1.2 million. How much is a Samsung Galaxy? About ₦300,000. How can an iPhone and a Samsung cost more than your tuition, and you are complaining? Where will the money to pay lecturers come from? In that same Unilag, many students drive more luxurious cars and use better phones than their lecturers. Am I lying?

“In Nigeria, we are just too used to freebies and cheap things from our government. We have one of the lowest tuition fees on planet Earth, if not the lowest, yet, our doctors and nurses are some of the most sought after on Earth.

“At least there is a student loan provision being made for those who can’t afford the tuition.

“If you think university tuition is too costly in Nigeria, simply go to neighbouring Benin Republic, or Ghana. Nobody will tell you before you run back to Nigeria”
