Super Falcons of Nigeria goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie won the Player of the Match (POTM) award in the clash between her team and Canada earlier today.

Chiamaka Nnadozie gave a very good account of herself as she ensured that the Super Falcons drew 0-0 with reigning Olympics champions, Canada, in their opening 2023 Women’s World Cup group B clash.

Nnadozie put in a superb performance, and to top it off, she turned away Canada’s Christine Sinclair’s penalty kick which could have earned Nigeria a defeat.

The 0-0 draw left Nigeria and Canada tied on the second spot behind co-host Australia who defeated the Republic of Ireland 1-0 on Thursday. Nigeria’s next match is against the co-host on July 27.

Meanwhile, Spain defeated Costa Rica 3-0 to claim their first Women’s World Cup victory.

Valeria del Campo’s own goal gave Spain the advantage, and Aitana Bonmati added a second with a curling shot two minutes later.

Esther Gonzalez completed the annihilation of Costa Rica in the 27th minute. Spain almost added one goal in the 34th minute but goalkeeper Daniela Solera stopped Jennifer Hermoso’s spot-kick.

Olga Carmona struck the crossbar and Solera produced several superb saves to limit Spain to three goals.

The stats from the game showed how dominant the Spanish team was: they attempted 46 shots and 12 of them were on target, compared to 36th-ranked Costa Rica who only managed one missed shot.
