Labour Party State Chairmen Affirm Confidence In Abure, Debunk Missing N3.5 Billion

The Labour Party (LP) has criticized the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration for the latest increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol or fuel.

Naija News reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) had on Tuesday raised its fuel price from N540 to N617.

Speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, the NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, blamed ‘market forces’ for the increase.

He stated that the new pump price reflects the dynamics of a market-regulated pricing model.

Reacting in a statement titled ‘Latest Petroleum Pump Price Increase: Nigeria will overcome the taskmaster in our land,’ the National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, stated that the new hike in fuel prices heralds the beginning of hard times for Nigerians.

Ifoh noted that it warned Nigerians about the dangers of voting for the government of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The statement read, “The Labour Party has said that the latest adjustment in the petroleum Pump Price is just the beginning of hard times Nigerians will be facing under the All Progressives Congress-led administration.

“Recall that we had earlier warned that the bourgeoisie government in place can only enrich the upper class and inflict penury on the proletariat. You offer a paltry ₦8,000 to a family of five and extract all they have laboured for through obnoxious policies.

“Nigerians do not deserve what they are getting from the present government. The Labour Party condemns the attitude of the government to its people. This is even coming at a time the Nigerian currency has continued to devalue under the watch of this government. We are, however, optimistic that Nigeria will overcome the taskmaster of our time. We will soon witness the Promised Land.”
