The Acting Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has said the fight to curb land borders smuggling is one of his topmost priorities.

Adeniyi stated this on Wednesday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy visit to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, at his office.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Abdullahi Maiwada, the Customs boss sought the support of the NSA to end border insecurity and the menace of smuggling.

Adeniyi emphasised the need to address some of the challenges associated with manning Nigeria’s vast and porous land borders.

He said: “The porous nature of the nation’s borders necessitates this visit to NSA to fashion the best way to tackle the menace of smuggling, which has adverse effects on our economy and security.”
