The PUNCH: The Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, on Monday, vowed a heavy clampdown on oil thieves, insisting that the nation cannot “afford to let saboteurs take over our economy.” Adeniyi, who said there were still cases of smuggling of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, at Nigeria’s border stations despite the removal of subsidy on the commodity, said the agency had adopted new border patrol strategies to close in on oil thieves


The Guardian: Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Total and other oil companies operating in the country flared about $3.9 billion (about N3 trillion) worth of gas in the last four years, despite growing environmental concerns and revenue leakages in the nation’s petroleum industry.


Vanguard: The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan Kukah, said yesterday Nigerians witnessed the worst phase of corruption under the last administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.


The Nation: The battle against oil theft has recorded a big gain with the interception and destruction of an 800,000 litres vessel laden with stolen crude. Sixty-four illegal crude oil connections have also been discovered while 77 illegal refineries were destroyed in the Niger Delta last week.
