Monarchs Urge Tinubu To Sign Nigeria Peace Corps Bill Into Law

Some Nigerian monarchs have admonished President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to, without further hesitation, sign the Peace Corps of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill into law.

Naija News understands that the traditional rulers made the call on Monday, July 10, at the public lecture in commemoration of the 25th anniversary/2023 Founder’s Day celebration of the Peace Corps of Nigeria held in Abuja.

Present at the occasion is the Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, Tor Tiv, Orcivirigh Prof James Ayatsa and the Paramount Ruler of the Idoma Kingdom, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Agaba’Idu, Dr Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John.

In his remark, Etsu Nupe, who was the chairman of the occasion, stated that the signing of the bill into law would go a long way in helping the federal government’s efforts in the fight against insecurity in the country.

“The signing of the bill would enable the Peace Corps officers to join hands with other security agencies in tackling the security challenges,” Leadership quoted Etsu Nupe saying.

He advised the cadets always to show discipline and be focused on the discharge of their duties anywhere. The monarch commended the national commandant of the corps, Dr Dickson Akor and his officers for ensuring the success of the corps despite the difficulties.

On his part, the Tor Tiv, Orchivirigh, Prof James Ayatsa, expressed that he is always passionate about anything that has to do with youth.

The Ochi’Idoma, Agaba Idu, Dr Elaigwu Odogbo, appreciated the fact that an Idoma son and Benue-born nationalist is championing a common course for the unity of Nigeria.

Earlier, the national commandant Peace Corps of Nigeria, Dr Dickson Akoh, said from the inception of the corps to date, his desire has been to promote peaceful co-existence and achieve a functional and sustainable growth index in youth development and reorientation.
