Father-In-Law To Sultan Of Sokoto And Emir Of Bichi Passes Away

Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, and Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero, the Emir of Bichi in Kano state, have suffered a personal loss.

Abubakar Imam Galadanchi, their father-in-law, has passed away in London following a long illness.

Aminu Haliru, the Public Relations Officer of the Sultanate Council, confirmed the unfortunate news on Saturday.

He noted that both the Sultan and the Emir of Bichi are married to the daughters of the deceased.

Former Ohanaeze Ndigbo President Is Dead

In another development, the unfortunate death of a former President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Prof Joseph Irukwu, has been announced.

Naija News reports that the former lawyer died at the age of 89.

His death was announced in a statement on Saturday by Prince Harrison Eze Okorie, President General, Amaokwe Item Welfare Union.

He said: “The Amaokwe Item Welfare Union on behalf of the entire Amaba Ukwu kindred and the immediate family hereby announce the glorious but painful demise of our great patron, father, grandfather, son and brother, PROF (CHIEF)JOSEPH OGBONNAYA IRUKWU, SAN, CFR.

“The Union on behalf Amaokwe Community, commiserate with the family and pray to God to grant his soul peaceful rest.

“The Union enjoin all Amaokwe sons and daughters to mourn the exit of this giant as we also remember to uphold his family in prayers in this moment of grief.”

A lawyer, lecturer, author and insurance guru, Irukwu was the founding managing director of Nigerian Reinsurance Corporation.

He founded the African Development Insurance Company thereafter, which was later sold to Diamond Bank.
