'Shocking Decision' - LP's Rhodes-Vivour Reacts To Supreme Court Ruling

The Lagos State Governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has backed the rescheduling of the 2023 governorship and state assembly elections.

Naija News reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced in a statement on Wednesday night that the elections would not hold on March 11th as earlier scheduled.

According to INEC, the gubernatorial elections would now take place on the 18th of March, 2023 following the court ruling on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

The electoral umpire also disclosed that governorship campaigns would continue until midnight Thursday, 16th March 2023.

The postponement of the elections follows the ruling by the Court of Appeal which granted the Commission the right to reconfigure the BVAS used for the presidential and national assembly polls.

Speaking during an interview with Vanguard on Thursday, Rhodes-Vivour said he had no problem with the postponement of the polls and also agreed with the excuse given by the Commission.

He, therefore, called on INEC to do the needful by ensuring that data gathering and data collection of the presidential election stored on the BVAS are not compromised.

He said: “I feel it’s extremely important for the needful to be done with regards to data gathering and data collection of the presidential election to ensure that we can put the best case forward with regards to the presidential election that was robbed.”
