President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a message to Nigeria’s under-20 national team, also known as the Flying Eagles, to encourage them to win the ongoing CAF Under-20 AFCON in Egypt.

Naija News recalls that the Flying Eagles of Nigeria defeated Uganda Under-20 team 1-0 on Thursday in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The slim victory qualified the Nigerian team for the semi-finals stage of the competition and also gave them a ticket to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

They have been paired to play against the Gambia under-20 team at the Cairo International Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 18:00 (6 pm) today.

Ahead of the game, President Buhari charged the Flying Eagles to win the CAF under-20 Nations Cup, according to the Sports Minister Sunday Dare.

Dare delivered president Buhari’s message after he arrived in Cairo alongside former Super Eagles captain and aide to Buhari, Daniel Amokachi on Sunday.

The minister said “Mr. President and indeed the whole of Nigeria is proud of what you have already achieved. That is the major reason I have been directed by Mr. President to come here to see you. The target is to win a World Cup ticket and you have done that.

“Now, go for the ultimate prize. You can repeat what you did at the WAFU B competition. You can smell the trophy now, so take it to step by step and become African champions again.”
