Gombe Gubernatorial 2023: Yahaya Faces Three Major Contenders

The 2023 Gombe State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Gombe State.

Incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya is running for a second term and was renominated by his party.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the state is Jibril Barde while that of the  Labour party (LP) is Hon Keftin Amuga

Below is a brief bio on the major contenders in the Gombe goversgip election.

APC’s, Inuwa Yahaya: He is the incumbent governor of the state and is seeking a re-election.

On March 9, 2019, Yahaya was declared as the Governor-elect of Gombe State at the 2019 Gombe State gubernatorial election. He scored a total number of 364,179 votes to defeat his closest rival of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Usman Bayero Nafada, who polled 222,868 votes.

Jibrin Barde: He is the Former Group Managing Director of Sun Trust Bank, Barde had emerged winner of the Gombe State PDP governorship primary election. He polled 160 votes to defeat five other candidates to emerge the winner.

LP’s Keftin Amuga: He is the former minority leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

NNPP’s Khamisu Mailantarki: He is a former Member House of Representatives representing Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye constituencies of Gombe state.

Milantarki made history in 2011 when he emerged as the only legislator from North-East with the highest Number of vote and was the deputy chairman house committee on FCT area council  and member of several other committees such as petroleum upstream, internal security, house services, human right, climate changes and global warming, and solid minerals salt. He is the founder of Mailatantarki Football Care Academy.
