Lawan Keeps Mum On Contesting For Senate Presidency Race

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been urged to strictly comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 in the conduct of the March 11 governorship and state assembly elections.

Naija News reports that the Senate on Thursday before adjourning plenary till March 14 to allow lawmakers to participate in the elections called on the electoral body to ensure strict compliance with the Electoral Act 2022 in the forthcoming polls.

According to Senate President Ahmed Lawan, it is also important for the commission to address issues aggrieved Nigerians have raised concerning the conduct of last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections for the successful conduct of the forthcoming governorship election.

He said “INEC should consider looking into issues raised by the public. INEC should be strictly guided by the Constitution and the Electoral Act and their guidelines and regulations.

“Nigerians should support INEC in whatever way they can so that it conducts the governorship and states assembly elections successfully.

“This is because that is what we all expect and that is what we need as a democracy.”

Lawan also wished all the seven serving senators who are contesting in the governorship election well ahead of the polls.

The Senate President also said it would be historic if the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Aishatu Binani emerged winner at the polls as the first Nigerian female governor.
