The Nigerian Police Force has opened up on the reason why investigations about the alleged officers involved in extrajudicial killings and organ trafficking in Anambra state are not made public yet.

Naija News reports that the Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Twitter on Tuesday, stated that the investigation regarding the case was still ongoing.

Adejobi added that the information gathered about the case is yet to be made public because they are sensitive.

According to him, the offenses levied against the officers are heavy and are capital in nature, given the reason why they are ensuring that their findings are scientific so that justice can be sure.

He further urged the public to exercise patience while the police do their job, saying final reports will be made public after investigations.

He said: “We won’t be coming here every time to reveal our investigation activities. it’s not proper. And more so, not every vital piece of evidence, in a sensitive case like this, should be made public, such could defile the evidence and render it inadmissible in court.

“Many who share information, here are not investigators, but journalists who have been blowing the whistle. But for a trained investigator, such won’t be necessary.

“We have received many messages on our platforms and calls, severally on the same case, from good Nigerians who really want to assist the investigation, but, of course, no one will expect us to be sharing this infos and vital tips, with you on social media. No way.

“We still commend those who have revealed all these to us, as I said.  The panel has commenced its investigation, and I am sure you will notice their moves, unannounced, around the east and some parts of Nigeria. Even many administrative steps have been taken on the matter. As I said, the investigation is not a movie. You can’t start and end it within 1hr 30min, as you see on Africa Magic.

“No. Be patient. Insinuations, rumours, exaggerations, psychological projections, etc, are expected in a case like this, but we need to be firm, thorough, and professional in taking some steps and decisions while investigating a case of the alleged murder, organs harvest, kidnapping, and Diversion of exhibits. These are heavy offenses and are capital in nature. So we need to be scientific in our findings. Be assured that justice is sure. Reports will be made known as and when due.”

This publication earlier reported that an anonymous Instagram blog, Gistlovers, published videos of victims in captive and morgue alleging that a senior police officer, identified as Patrick Agbazue, in Anambra state is involved in the kidnapping, murder of citizens, and selling their bodies parts as well forcefully taking ownership of their properties.

The blog further alleged that Patrick and his team are worse than their predecessor, James Nwafor, who was accused of similar crimes during his tenure as head of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Anambra.

Reacting to the allegations on Friday, Adejobi said, that Patrick and other alleged accomplices reported to the force headquarters in Abuja today (Friday).

He noted that the panel set up to probe the extrajudicial killings was given two weeks to come up with a report of investigation.

Adejobi added that the IG has assured that the findings of the investigations will determine the next line of action while promising that the Nigeria Police Force will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is done in the case and sanctions meted to any officers found guilty.
