INEC: How To Report Vote Buying, Election Day Violence
Hoodlums

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed how Nigerians can simply report vote buying and related election offences on 2023 election day.

Naija News reports that the 2023 general election will commence on February 25th, starting with the presidential and members of the Senate and House of Representatives elections. The gubernatorial elections will follow on March 11, 2023, across 31 out of 36 states.

Ahead of the civic exercise, INEC revealed on its official website that election offences can be reported to its situation room on election day.

The electoral body, however, stated that the number to reach the situation room will be communicated to the public before election day.

It also encouraged electorates to download the myINEC App from the Google Play Store and report incidents to the commission as it happens.

‘INEC To Inform Nigerians The True Situation About 2023 Elections On Tuesday’ – Commissioner

Meanwhile, a National Commissioner of the INEC on Sunday claimed that the electoral body will on Tuesday reveal the true situation of things ahead of the 2023 general election.

Naija News reports that the INEC officials stated this while speaking on the readiness of security agencies to be deployed for the election.

He expressed worries over the violent protests in the country following the redesign of the Nigeria’s currency by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The official of the electoral body, who spoke with The Sun on condition of anonymity, said INEC has not gotten a commensurate response for the peaceful conduct of the election from security agencies.

He further stated that even though the INEC is ready for the presidential and National Assembly election this week, it will, however, wait for the response from the security agencies.

The Commissioner said, “I can confirm to you that the commission is ready to conduct the presidential and National Assembly election as scheduled. Sensitive and non-sensitive materials have been deployed to all the states. The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines have been configured and deployed to the appropriate places.

“We are ready to go; however, what I cannot confirm is whether we will get commensurate commitment from the security agencies especially as it concerns the security situation in the country. You can see the recent protests in some states, they need to deal with this situation.”

Speaking on the promise of CBN to help INEC with cash to offset some logistics, he said without the aid of the apex bank, the commission will face some difficulties.

“We will meet with the chairman to brief us about the situation with the arrangements with the CBN over our cash requests. If we did not get favourable responses over these issues of insecurity and cash support, we will inform Nigerians during a world press conference,” he added.
