The PUNCH: Nigerians who hoped that the nationwide broadcast by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), would put an end to the crisis and sufferings engendered by the naira redesign had their hopes dashed on Thursday. Contrary to these expectations, Buhari’s national broadcast failed to offer any concrete solution to the severe cash shortage, or the pains and sufferings of Nigerians


The Guardian: Amid confusion over the state of Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira redesign policy, President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, weighed in heavily to provide clarity and direction, when he addressed the nation in a broadcast, the first this year, and which may be his last as President before handing over on May 29.


This Day: President Muhammadu Buhari has said the cashless policy and the naira redesign project of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have short and long term benefits for the country in dealing with insecurity and corruption.He however, agreed that the apex bank should take the recommendation of a parliamentary committee to rectify identified challenges associated with the initiative which had created imbroglio in the past few days.


The Nation: President Muhammadu Buhari came under fire yesterday for flouting the Supreme Court order on the validity of ₦1,000, N500 and N200 as legal tenders. Senior lawyers and civil society slammed the President for spurning the injunction in his broadcast.


Daily Trust: Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has alleged that the naira redesign policy of President Muhammadu Buhari is aimed at truncating Nigeria’s democracy. Ganduje spoke late Wednesday in Kano when he met with the Forum of Former Parliamentarians, North-West zone, that visited to intimate him of their resolve to support the presidential ambition of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
