As Nigeria counts down to the 2023 general election, several delegations are expected to troop into the country from all over the world to monitor the polls.

Naija News has gathered that a 90-member observer team is expected to arrive in Nigeria from other African countries as observers for the polls.

It was learnt that the African Union Commission disclosed on Tuesday that it will be sending a 90-strong observer mission to Nigeria for this month’s elections.

The African Union said its presence at the forthcoming election was not only to monitor the election but to also show support for its member state towards consolidating democracy and stability in Nigeria.

The African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) is said to be headed by the former Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kenyatta, who is said to be the team leader has a record of peace mediation to end the two years war in northern Ethiopia and is mediating in the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The African Union said the objectives of the mission were to provide an “accurate and impartial assessment” of the electoral process, offer recommendations for any improvement in future polls and demonstrate AU support “towards consolidation of democracy, peace, stability and development in Nigeria”.
