DSS: ‘Emefiele’s Escort Bigger Than President Buhari’s’
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele on Monday returned to the country.
Emefiele returned to the country after two weeks’ leave outside the country, amidst plans by the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest him.
According to SaharaReporters, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor on Monday deployed military personnel to ensure that Emefiele was not arrested upon his arrival.
Sources that spoke with the platform revealed that Emefiele who is wanted for allegedly financing terrorism was shielded by the military personnel provided by the CDS office in Abuja.
One of the sources said, “Apparently the Chief of Defence Staff was the one that aided Emefiele to defy the DSS upon arrival. Irabor deployed the military police and intelligence to ensure Emefiele was not arrested.
“Emefiele has returned to Nigeria. He went to the CBN with massive security. He was given military protection. His security is bigger than that of the President.”
There had been reports that the secret police on Monday attempted to arrest Emefiele, following an alleged invasion of the headquarters of the CBN in Abuja.
DSS, however, in a statement released on Monday described the report as fake, adding that its operatives did not invade CBN.
