Two students of the Federal Government College, Ijaniki, Lagos State, have reportedly been infected with HIV after absconding from school to lodge in hotels for sex romps.

This publication understands that the students numbering about seven males and five females were all boarders and had on different occasions jumped the school’s fence, and stayed out of school for days without being noticed by the school authority.

According to PUNCH, the students involved in the act were between the ages of 14 and 17 and are addicted to heavy use of drugs like codeine, molly, among others.

The escapades which have been going on in the school for more than three sessions, including the just concluded first term, came to the notice of the school authority after one of the students impregnated a female colleague.

Confirming the incident, some parents of the school blamed the school management for negligence and lamented an alleged plot to cover up the scandal.

Parent-Teacher Association Speaks

The Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association of the school, Olusola Tokede, confirmed that some students absconded from the school and refuted claims that the school was trying to cover up the incident.

Tokede insisted that the students were caught by the school management at hotels on two different occasions after noticing their absence and some of the students involved were expelled, while others were suspended.

The PTA chairman also faulted the children’s upbringing from their respective homes and expressed surprise at how a 15-year-old student would be engaging in such immoral activities.

He said: “If parents failed to train their children, they will pollute others. Can you imagine a child between ages 15 and 16 having up to N1m in her account? They went to do twosome: two girls, one boy. They were caught before the end of last session. You can imagine that a 15-year-old that should be a virgin is already engaging in immoral activities. They are rotten from their various homes and we are working hard to stop them from polluting others.

School Authority Speaks

The Principal of the school, Tofunmi Akamo, has denied allegations of covering up the students caught in the sex romps.

Speaking with newsmen, Tofunmi said the students, numbering six, were picked up from the hotel by the school and the incident happened once.

She claimed that the school management noticed the absence of the students during an urgent roll call at the hostel adding that some have been suspended and others expelled.

She said: “The children are currently on indefinite suspension; that is the guideline recommended for them.

“One of the students was expelled because she was pregnant. We also expelled the boy that impregnated her.”

Meanwhile, the Director (Legal Services), Federal Ministry of Education, Grace Ekanem, in a letter which was obtained by TRIBUNE, promised to look into the case.
