A group of Civil Society Organisations has expressed concerns over the reports of missing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and the challenges of locating them ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The group on Friday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that a free and fair election is conducted in 2023.

The organisations made this call during a press conference by the Focal Person of the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Groups, Maximilian Tashilani; the Convener of Coalition of Civil Society For Good Governance, Okpanachi Jacob; and chairman of Arewa Transformational Leaders, Yusuf Ibrahim.

The CSOs also charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to improve its voter’s education.

He said, “From all indications, President Muhammadu Buhari is not only desirous of bequeathing the legacy of a free and fair election, but he is also poised to ensure that all institutions responsible for delivering credible elections are genuinely independent.

“The difficulties voters undergo to collect their PVCs are unbearable. Aside from the challenges of locating one PVC, there are also reports of missing PVCs.”

The call of the organisation is coming barely 49 days before the 2023 general elections.
