JUST IN: Tinubu Makes Another Appointments Hours After Resuming Office

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu has insisted that the fuel subsidy regime has to end.

The former Lagos State Governor submitted that fuel subsidy removal will end wastage and make government funds readily available for other important projects.

He insisted that ending the fuel subsidy regime is one issue almost all the 2023 presidential candidates agree upon because it has been proven to favour the rich more than the poor.

He added that those trying to twist his position on the matter are intentionally quoting him out of context to score cheap political points.

Speaking further, Tinubu said as a veteran of protests himself, he respects the opinion of people who are against his views but insisted fuel subsidy has to go if he becomes the next President of Nigeria.

In his words while speaking during an interview with Kano-based Freedom Radio, the APC candidate said: “Recently I was asked about fuel subsidy removal, and I said I will ensure we end the wastage and re-channel the money to the people who truly need it. This is one position that almost all the candidates are united about. We all agreed that the subsidy regime is abused and it favours the rich more than the poor. It has to go.

“I couldn’t have opposed people expressing their own position on this. I believe in consultation and guaranteed by democratic values and norms. I respect opinion of people and I would not be party to stifling dissenting views or any legitimate protest. I am a veteran of protests myself. So why should I say people should not embark on well-intentioned protest? There is no excuse for that and there is no abuse of power intended.
