2023: LP Expresses Confidence G-5 Governors Will Support Obi

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and other members of the G-5 are currently in the United Kingdom to deliberate on the presidential candidate to support in 2023.

There had been claims that the five aggrieved governors have finally dumped the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Sources over time had stated that the Governors might endorse the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi or the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

Amidst the speculations, the Obi-Datti presidential campaign council has expressed confidence that Governor Wike and his allies will support Obi.

The campaign council noted that Obi possesses all the qualities the G-5 governors are looking for in a presidential candidate.

The spokesman of the Obi-Datti presidential campaign council, Yunusa Tanko stated this in a chat with Leadership on Wednesday.

He said, “We are hopeful he will be adopted. The pendulum has shown something similar. When we visited Oyo, Rivers, and Benue, the atmosphere was good. We are hopeful the other governors will support us also.”

Tanko further stated that even if they don’t get the public support of the governors, it won’t stop them from reaching out to Nigerians.

He added, “Nothing is stopping us from continuing to mobilise. Nigerians are the people we are mobilising. What we are doing is what is attracting people to us. The youths are with us. The campaign is not for the DG alone.

“Nigerians should understand what is going on in the Education sector and non-payment of salary. Nigerians should not forget the fact that our children have been home without going to school; people cannot go to school. Just recently, N8 billion was missing from the CBN.

“We must come together and support this gentleman, Peter Obi, for a better Nigerian.”
