Recall that Andy Murray, 35, underwent hip surgery in 2018 and 2019. Since then, the tennis career of the 35-year-old three-time Grand Slam winner has not been the same.

While 2022 has been disappointing, a training session with coach Ivan Lendl in Florida has given him the confidence he needs to compete at the highest level.

“If my body is in good shape and I’m still able to compete consistently, I’ll keep playing,” Murray said.

“But I can’t look so far in advance with the age I’m at and with the issues, I’ve had. If I was to have a big injury, I probably wouldn’t try to come back from that.”

To achieve a final-year rating of 49, Murray played 45 singles matches in 2022, winning 26 of them and making finals in Stuttgart and Sydney.

The third round of the US Open was his finest Grand Slam performance, however, he was defeated by Matteo Berrettini in four sets.

At the Battle of the Brits, which will take place in Aberdeen over the next two days, the former world number one will compete for Scotland against England.

On Wednesday, December 21 and Thursday, December 22, Murray will compete against Jack Draper and Dan Evans before joining forces with his brother Jamie, who organized the event, to take on Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski.

Then, starting with the Grand Slams next year, the two-time Olympic gold medalist aims to better his results.

“I wasn’t happy with how last season went – certainly the last six months or so from a physical perspective – but my ranking still went from 125 to 50 in a year”, The British tennis Icon noted. “I’m hoping that this year, with the work I’ve done, things will continue to improve and I’ll still be motivated to get out there and compete.”
