The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has arrived in Akwa Ibom state ahead of his presidential campaign in the state.

Naija News gathered that the former Governor of Anambra State arrived in the state alongside his team.

Obi will be hoping to attract the support of the people of Akwa Ibom on Tuesday ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The LP flagbearer in the forthcoming election would be contesting against the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, flag bearer of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso and several others.

Obi, however, will be without the Director General of his campaign council, Doyin Okupe who was sentenced to two years imprisonment on Monday over alleged money laundering.

Naija News reports that the High Court judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, during a session today, found Okupe guilty of contravening sections 16(1)&(2) of the Money Laundering Act.

She said the politician was guilty of collecting cash payments in excess of the threshold allowed under the Act without going through a financial institution.

As of the time of filing this report, Obi is yet to react to the court ruling.
