The PUNCH: Two weeks to Christmas, prices of commodities in the market, especially foodstuffs like rice, beans, yam and soup ingredients such as onions and tomatoes recording over 100 per cent price increase in some instances between October and now. Latest data obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics titled, ‘Selected Food Price Watch for October 2022’ showed that the average price of one kilogram onion bulb on a year-on-year basis rose by 32.56 per cent from the value recorded in October 2021 (N306.07) to N405.72.
This Day: President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday assessed the readiness of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 general election with a call on members of the party to close ranks ahead of the polls billed for the first quarter of next year. Speaking while receiving Katsina State APC governorship candidate, Dr. Dikko Radda and his running mate, Faruk Lawal Jobe, at his Daura residence, the president urged members of the party to unite and cooperate as a prerequisite for victory in the coming elections

Daily Trust: When Aminu Muhammad Adamu tweeted a picture of Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari on June 8 this year with a one-line caption literally translated to mean that the president’s wife had fed fat on poor peoples’ money, he had no idea how far the tweet would go and the consequences that would trail it, including temporarily becoming a rallying point against abuse of power in the search for justice. Like other students of Nigerian public universities, Adamu, a final year student of Environmental Management and Toxicology, had been at home for about four months (as at June 8) as a result of the strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and was frustrated with the slow pace of negotiations between the government and the union, while watching as children of the affluent and politicians graduated from private and foreign universities, his friends, course mates and roommates at the Federal University, Dutse (FUD) told Daily Trust on Sunday.
