The PUNCH: A head of the 2023 general elections, the opposition parties on Thursday advised the Independent National Electoral Commission not to succumb to forces pushing against the deployment of the Biometric Voter Accreditation System and electronic transmission of results. The Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Social Democratic Party, the New Nigeria Peoples Parties and the Coalition of United Political Parties in separate interviews with The PUNCH insisted that jettisoning the BVAS would compromise the polls.


The Guardian: Nigeria in ‘technical’ recession, say experts Prevailing economic challenges, as reflected in the business environment and rising inflation, which is further compounded by poor oil production in the last three months, have undermined Nigeria’s economy, as official figures show that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 2.25 per cent year-on-year in Q3,2022, marking the slowest growth since the COVID-19 pandemic.


The Nation: Petrol marketers yesterday differed with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NPPCL) on the lingering scarcity of the product in major cities, especially Lagos and Abuja. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) attributed the acute scarcity to the unavailability of the product at the filling stations. But the NNPCL, through its Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) agency, insisted it has enough in stock that will last for more than one month.


Daily Trust: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and agriculture are among the key sectors that boosted the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nigeria by 2.25 per cent in the third quarter of 2022. According to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released on Thursday, oil revenue dropped to 4.2% as production also dropped averagely to 1.2 million barrels per day
