Just In: List Of PDP Governors In Attendance As Meeting With Wike Begins

Amidst the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a former Senate Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi has begged Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike, as well as other aggrieved members of his team, to make peace and support the party to win the 2023 presidential election.

Naija News reports that Olujimi said she understands that Wike and other aggrieved members of his team were fighting for justice, equity and fairness in the party.

She, however, pleaded with them to look at the bigger picture of rescuing the people who are traumatised by the alleged misrule of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This plea comes after Wike endorsed the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term in office against the PDP candidate in the state, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor).

The senator representing Ekiti south senatorial district, while addressing pressmen about the crisis in the party, said in their quest to get the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, out of office for a chairman of southern extraction, the aggrieved governors did not give proper thought to the party’s constitution which states that when a chairman of the party resigns, the deputy chairman from his zone takes over from him.

Olujimi continued that “political parties are like families and there is nothing you can do without bruising each other. We have a lot of internal crises caused by ego bruising. I believe we are working on it. Despite the fact that we have problems, the party is working. We are meeting with the people that are yearning for our return to government. We are working hard to ensure that the right things are done.

“We can’t go to the extent of destroying the house we have built. I am optimistic that we will achieve our set goals. The people who are agitating may be right because the agreement is that when a candidate of northern extraction emerges as a presidential candidate, it will be wrong to retain the chairman in the North. But we didn’t think through our constitution.

“If we remove the chairman, the deputy national chairman (North) will still take over. The governors that are agitating are fighting for justice and equity. But there is a school of thought that believed that the south had done 14 years of presidency in the PDP and the North had only done two. There is nothing wrong with looking at all these issues.

“I want to beg Wike. Let him allow a middle course so that we can work towards a common goal. It is not about him. He is a good party man, he loves the PDP, but we should allow peace to reign.”
