Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has reacted to his release from the Uyo Correctional Centre.

Naija News earlier reported that Effiong, who was incarcerated for one month at the Uyo prison, regained his freedom.

Recalls that on July 27, Justice Ekaette Obot jailed Effiong on grounds of alleged contempt of court after he reportedly protested against the presence of armed policemen in court.

The lawyer was in court to defend Leo Ekpenyong, a lawyer, in a libel suit filed by Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom when the incident occurred.

In a Live video, Effiong was spotted walking out of prison to the waiting hands of friends and colleagues who had gathered around Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, as early as 8:00 a.m.

In a post on Facebook, the lawyer expressed happiness to be released from prison, saying that he is back stronger and more determined to confront the forces of oppression.

“I am back, stronger and more determined to confront the forces of oppression and to continue to speak nothing but the hard truth to the faces of the oppressors of our people. I feel sorry for those who thought they can break my spirit by incarcerating me,” he wrote.
