As the date for the registration of Nigerians to vote in the 2023 polls draws to a close, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the commission has so far registered over 2.3 Million eligible voters in North East Zone.

National Commissioner in charge of North East zone, Dr. Baba Bila disclosed this after an assignment tour of the exercise in the Northeast.

Dr.Bila expressed satisfaction with the continuous voter registration exercise in the zone which is expected to end in a few days time.

The INEC National Commissioner advised Nigerians to have a change of attitude and stop last hour rush in national exercises like the electoral process.

Dr. Bila who was in Yola today said the exercise in some local government areas in the state has been very successful adding that the commission is committed to providing a conducive atmosphere for all Nigerians to be registered.

Bila said the conduct of the exercise is successful compared to other geographical zones in the country noting that prospective voters should avoid double registrations not to negate their chances of voting for their preferred candidates.

“The exercise in Adamawa is very successful and satisfactory with the large turnout we saw while monitoring the exercise in the state.

“However, My candid advice is for the people to stop double registration because it is not going to be useful to them, it will be weeded out eventually.

“We will continue some advocacy to encourage people to come out and collect their cards on time with a view to doing things at the right time,” Bila stated.

The National Commissioner commended the Adamawa state INEC under the leadership of Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Barrister Kassim Geidam for the procedures adopted in conducting the electoral process in the state.

Some prospective voters in separate interviews in Yola South and Yola North local government Areas in the state, Gibson Garba and Fatima Muhammad said the processes of the registration are done perfectly but only slowly.

They, therefore, appealed to INEC for additional speedy methodologies for completion of the registration with a view to ensuring Nigerians are not disenfranchised.
