2023: CRC-N Synod Kicks Against APC Proposed Muslim-Muslim Ticket

The synod of the Christian Reformed Church -Nigeria (CRC-N) on Saturday kicked against the proposed Muslim-Muslim Presidential ticket by the ruling All Progressive Congress ( APC).

The CRC-N synod said Nigeria is a secular state and that choosing a Muslim -Muslim ticket would come with consequences.

This is contained in a communique issued at the end of the 154th General Church Council Meeting of the church signed by the President, Rev. Isaiah Jirapye and General Secretary Rev. Sagarga Gargea.

It described the proposal by the APC as a calculated arrangement aimed at pushing Christians out of political leadership of the country which it said was being perceived in some quarters as Islamization agenda.

Part of the communique read; “Council enjoins the APC Presidential candidate, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately replace the name he submitted to INEC with a Christian from the north.

“The church has a significant role to play in bringing about God-fearing leaders in 2023 and there are thousands of competent God-fearing Christians in the north who can deliver if trusted with the mandate,” it said.

According to the communique, the synod condemned the worsening insecurity in the country especially the recent attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, noting that churches were now the soft target by terrorists.

This is even as the council urged Christians not only to be security conscious but prepared to defend themselves in the midst of the deteriorating security situation and obtain Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) so as to vote and determine who govern them come 2023.

While expressing dismay over the mass influx of terrorists into Taraba State, the Council called on the Federal and State Governments to ensure that terrorists and bandits are flushed out of the state.
