Ohanaeze Sends Message To Buhari Ahead Of APC Presidential Primaries

President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked again to release the detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Naija News reports that the IPOB leader, who is being detained at the headquarters of the Department of State Service (DSS), is facing a seven-count charge of terrorism.

During a meeting with the President on Friday, the South-East leaders said the release of the IPOB leader will bring peace to the region and stop the agitation of the proscribed group.

The leaders made this known in a meeting with Buhari at the Executive Council Chambers, New Government House Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi state.

Speaking on behalf of the Igbo leaders, first Republic Minister of Aviation, Mbazulike Amaechi, called on the president to release the IPOB leader.

Amaechi also appealed to Buhari to ensure that the worsening insecurity in the region is tackled and peace is restored.

I want to see peace in this country before I join my ancestors, I want to see peace in the South-East, particularly where there is an upsurge of crisis and something that will lead to that peace is around the corner and we are asking you to give me the mandate and I will give you peace. I guarantee you this Mr. President”

“We say in Igbo land that a mad man is owned by his people. If somebody was mad yesterday, and on a guarantee of elders like me and other elders, I will bring him out and that is to get peace.

“Help us to get the peace and I will give you peace in this part of this country and also in Nigeria because I am a Nigerian, I took part in the struggle for the independence of this country,” he said.

Ohanaeze President-General, George Obiozor represented by Ohaneze’s Deputy Legal Adviser, Peter Alike, called for amnesty for all Igbo youths languishing in various detention facilities across the country.

Also speaking, Chairman of Southeast Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Charles Mkpuma, pleaded with the Nigerian leader to direct the release of Kanu.

Mkpuma said the leaders have started discussions with IPOB with a view to getting all of them to come to a roundtable discussion for an amicable resolution so that peace will return to the region.

On behalf of the leaders, Mkpuma commended the President for the construction of the second Niger Bridge, Akanu Bbiam Airport and many federal roads in the region.

The traditional ruler, however, asked for the President’s support for the South East to produce the next president in 2023.
