Aisha Buhari Reacts As Binani Emerges First APC Female Gubernatorial Candidate

Some of the 2023 presidential aspirants arrived early at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja for the Ramadan Iftar dinner organized by First Lady Aisha Buhari.

The event which was scheduled to kick off by 6.30 pm already had some of the guests arriving by 6.20 pm.

Some of the presidential aspirants who arrived early and were on seat when the event started include the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed.

Other officials from across political parties in the country who attended the dinner include the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio; one-time National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Barnabas Gemade; former Speaker Yakubu Dogara; and businessman Tein Jack-Rich.

It will be recalled the First Lady had invited presidential aspirants to Ramadan Iftar dinner at the State House Conference Centre.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife in an invitation letter instructed the invitees not to come along with their mobile devices, except for their invitation cards which would serve as their entry pass.

The directive, however, does not apply to the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and governors and ministers who will be at the meeting.

During the meeting on Saturday, the First Lady urged all aspirants to eschew politics of bitterness and avoid violence.

Mrs. Buhari also asked the presidential aspirants to choose women as their running mates ahead of the 2023 general elections.

She said: “In fact, it is high time women are adopted as running mates at all levels considering their voting strength and active involvement in political processes.

“As we approach the 2023 election with greater hope, I am confident that Nigeria will continue to grow from strength to strength on the pedestal of our democratic tenets.”
