EFCC Arrests Ex-Gov Obiano’s Wife, Ebelechukwu

Ebelechukwu, the wife of the former Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The former first lady of Anambra State who has been under investigation is currently in the custody of the anti-graft agency.

There are reports according to Punch that Ebelechukwu is being questioned by the commission for alleged fraud.

Recall that Ebelechukwu was in the news recently after she got in a fight with former Nigerian ambassador to Spain, Bianca Ojukwu, during the swearing-in of the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo on March 17.

Ebelechukwu weeks after the incident declared her intention to represent Anambra North District at the Senate in the 2023 election.

The former first lady’s arrest is coming a month after the commission arrested her husband at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

There were claims that he planned to leave for the United States, hours after handing over to his successor, Soludo.

Obiano was thereafter moved to Abuja and quizzed over the alleged diversion of ₦37 billion security vote and ₦5bn SURE-P fund.

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, while speaking on Obiano’s wife’s arrest said he is not aware of the development.
