Two Killed As Gunmen Attack Returning IDPs In Plateau

Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed two Internally Displaced Persons in Barki Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack was confirmed to the PUNCH by a resident who disclosed that the victim had just returned to their homes and were rebuilding their ravaged houses when the assailant came in shooting.

Naija News understands that the victims have previously suffered a series of attacks by terrorists which led to their displacement from Rantis village.

Speaking with reporters in Jos, the state capital on Thursday (today), the National President of Berom Youths Moulders Association, Dalyop Mwantiri, said three other persons suffered degrees of injuries during the attack.

The youths leader said, “Another tragic incident has been witnessed in Rantis village of Gashish District, Barkin Ladi LGA in Plateau State, where Internally Displaced Persons of Rantis were attacked about 3:30 pm of April 6, 2022.

“As a result, two persons have been confirmed dead while three others sustained fatal injuries.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ubah Ogaba, was unreachable when contacted for confirmation, Naija News reports.

Meanwhile, former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang’s son, Pam Jang has been endorsed to represent the people of Jos-South/Jos-East Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

Naija News reports that Jang on Tuesday received a form of interest purchased by a group of political friends who believe in his leadership ability.

The group led by Dr Dagwom Gyang, presented the form purchased under the Peoples Democratic Party to Jang at a brief ceremony in Jos yesterday, stating that they know him to be a good man who will replicate his father’s leadership ability and even more.

Gyang stated, “We saw the enduring legacies left by your father (Jonah Jang) when he was the governor of Plateau State and as his son, we know that you are a good man and will do the same thing and even better in governance position.

“That is why we decided to purchase the form for you to go and represent the people of Jos-South/Jos-East Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.”

In awe of the gesture, Jang expressed his gratitude to the group saying it was an honour that he consider a privilege.

According to him, it is a common fact that his people are in dire need of genuine and effective representation in the green chambers that should be defined by results, not attributes and making speeches or being liked.
