The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has hailed the release of the Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday ‘Igboho’ Adeyemo.

Naija News earlier reported that the Benin Republic Government has released the Yoruba Nation activist to the leader of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye.

This was made known in a statement to Naija News on Monday by the Communications Secretary to Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Maxwell Adeleye.

Reacting to the development, Afenifere Spokesman, Jare Ajayi, described Sunday Igboho’s release as a victory for self-determination, applauding the activist’s lawyers in Nigeria and in Benin Republic.

In a chat with Vanguard on Monday, Ajayi stated that Afenifere and indeed Yoruba people as a whole are very happy that Sunday has been released from detention.

He commended Prof Banji Akintoye, Prof Tunde Adeniran, Ilana Omo Oodua, Yoruba monarchs in Nigeria and in the Benin Republic for their efforts in seeing that Igboho is set free.

He said: “Sunday Adeyemo Igboho’s release is not just for him and the Yoruba people, it is a victory indicator for all those who believe in personal liberty and the right of a given people to self-determination.
