Nigerian Newspapers Daily Front Pages Review

Naija News looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Saturday, February, 19th 2022.

The PUNCH reports that an uneasy calm has settled over Osun State as the All Progressives Congress holds its governorship primary on Saturday (today). The tension is a result of a fierce battle for the sole ticket of the party between the Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola and a former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti.

There are strong indications that unless the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) amends its Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections (2019), it might use the Electoral Act 2010 for the conduct of the 2023 general election, The Guardian reports.

Some governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have launched an underground move to shift next Saturday’s national convention of the party. The aim is to buy time with a view to perfecting their strategy to install a candidate of their choice as the next national chairman of the party, according to The Nation.

Fear and confusion have continued to pervade leadership and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State ahead of today’s governorship primary election. Two governorship aspirants are slugging it out with the incumbent Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola for the party’s ticket to participate in the July 16th, 2022 gubernatorial election in the state. The aspirants are former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf and former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti.

Thank you for reading, that all for today, see you again tomorrow for a review of Nigerian newspapers.
