2023: Atiku Lose Out As Obasanjo, Ex-Generals Support Power Shift To South

There are speculations that some retired army generals and a former president, Olusegun Obasanjo have called for power to shift to the south in the 2023 general elections.

A further report had it that Obasanjo and the former generals are planning to support any of President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina; the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 election, Peter Obi and a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Mohgalu, to emerge as President in the forthcoming election.

A close ally of Obasanjo who spoke with Vanguard noted that the former president and the generals have no plan to support former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

The source added that the former National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, has been favoured to emerge as vice president.

“He (Obasanjo) supports power shift to the South. The people he has indicated an interest in general and not specifically are Akinwumi Adesina, Peter Obi and Kingsley Moghalu.

”Then in the North, he likes Attahiru Jega (former INEC chairman) to be the running mate. He is not supporting Atiku at all. He supports power-shift,” the source said.
