300m Litre: Residents Lament As Fuel Scarcity Hits Ado Ekiti

Ekiti State has joined the likes of Lagos State, Abuja and others in lamentation over the scarcity of fuel.

Reports reaching Naija News on Friday (today) revealed that barely four petrol stations are open to dispense Premium Motor Spirit in the state capital.

Residents who spoke with newsmen on the development today have decried the untold hardship, describing the scarcity as pathetic.

Naija News understands that petrol stations and major streets in the capital city of the state have been occupied by motorists and other consumers struggling to purchase the commodity.

The residents have called on the government to immediate profer solutions to the scarcity.

They also expressed worry over the reports of adulterated fuel which led to the whole saga.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari‘s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad had on Thursday claimed that about 300 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS have arrived in Nigeria.

The Presidential aide disclosed this yesterday quoting Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the board of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA).

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) had on Tuesday noted that petroleum products will be available across the states from Wednesday.

Naija News reports that IPMAN Vice President, Abubakar Maigandi a day before stated the fuel scarcity experienced in Lagos and other parts of the country is due to efforts by regulators to recall contaminated imported petroleum products.

Maigandi stated that there is no way petrol marketers can sell those contaminated products because it will affect motorists.

Reports made available on Thursday has now affirmed IPMAN’s claim, as Buhari’s aide noted that the newly imported 300 million litres would close the gap and ensure the availability of the product for Nigerians.

Ahmad tweeted: “At least six vessels ordered by the @NNPCgroup have arrived in the country, the vessels came in with 300 million litres of PMS (petrol) meant to close the gap created by the contaminated petrol withdrawn from depots and filling stations.”
