Orji Uzor Kalu Mourns As He Loses Wife

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu, on Friday called for the next president of Nigeria to come from the Southeast.

The former Governor of Abia State, however, stated that there is nothing like ‘Igbo President’ ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Kalu who has expressed his intention to contest in the presidential election stated this during an interview on Channels TV on Friday.

The lawmaker when asked on the clamour for the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives to zone its candidacy to the Southeast said, “This is Nigeria. This is not the Igbo Republic. So, there is nothing like an Igbo presidency. There is a President of Nigeria from Igbo, and it is possible if the country puts the ember on.”

Kalu would be looking forward to taking over from President Muhammadu Buhari whose tenure would end in less than 16 months.

The likes of Rochas Okorocha, Bola Tinubu, Anyim Pius Anyim and many others have shown interest to contest in the 2023 presidential election.

In a related development, Kalu has said the presidential ambition of the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu is not a threat to his presidential bid.

Kalu in his statement said, “No! and I am not a threat to his ambition. By the time we meet in Eagles Square, this issue will be settled.

“Mind you, politics is not only about money; it is about the people you are going to govern … the people of the north-west, the people of north-east, the people of north-central, the people of the south-east, the people of the south-west, and the people of south-south, and we have the people. I can move the people and the people are with me.”
