German professional footballer, Jerome Boateng, has been accused of assaulting his former girlfriend, Sherin S.

The 33-year-old former Bayern Munich player is expected to appear in court on Thursday to answer to the accusations which may land him in jail if found guilty,  Naija News understands.

Boateng is alleged to have assaulted the mother of his twin daughters in 2018. The hearing of Boateng’s alleged assault was supposed to have taken place in December last year but was postponed because a witness was unable to appear due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boateng had lost his ex-girlfriend Kasia Lenhardt in February this year. The model reportedly committed suicide in a Berlin flat while Boateng was away playing for Bayern at the Club World Cup in Qatar.

The player was then immediately given permission to fly home after news of her death.

Lenhardt according to reports, took her life six days after Boateng finished their relationship, then gave details of the break-up during a frank interview with top German daily Bild.

Speaking on the alleged assault charges against Boateng, his legal adviser said the player denies claims he injured Sherin during a heated argument three years ago as claimed in the suit against him.

The player, if found guilty could be fined or jailed for up to five years.

Boateng and Sherin S. are said to have been at loggerheads over the custody of their twins.

He made 363 appearances for Munich in his ten years spell at the Bundesliga club. The player helped Munich to nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophy.

Boateng’s contract was not extended when it expired in June before he was snapped up last week by French Ligue 1 side Lyon.
