BREAKING: NCDC Confirms Cases Of Omicron Variant In Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday recorded 753 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the disease control agency made this known in a post on its website on Friday morning.

According to the NCDC,  the additional infections were reported in 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with Lagos state recording most of the infections with 364 cases.

While Akwa-Ibom State drove the country’s COVID-19 surge in cases on Thursday with 141 additional infections, others with new infections included, Oyo-74, Rivers-46, Abia-38, Ogun-24, Kwara-20, the FCT-12, Ekiti-10, Delta-9, Edo-6, Plateau-5, Imo-3 and Bayelsa-1, respectively.

The NCDC recorded five more COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the nation’s fatality count, since the start of the pandemic, to 2,200.

A lockdown is not being contemplated though despite the increased cases in the third wave, particularly the outbreak of the deadly Delta variant in the country, the NCDC said.

Discharged cases reported for Kaduna were 18 and 2 for Aug.11 and Aug. 12. Six States with zero new cases reported are: Kaduna, Kano, Nasarawa, Ondo, Osun and Sokoto,” it stated.

The NCDC added that a total of 367 people recovered and were discharged from various isolation centres bringing the total recovery to 166,560.
