The extradition trial of Yoruba agitator, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, continues today Monday, July 26, 2021.

Naija News reports that Sunday Igboho was on Monday arrested In Benin Republic alongside his wife, Ropo, which trying to board a flight to Germany.

The Court D’Apeal in Cotonou, Benin Republic, had on Thursday adjourned the trial of Sunday Igboho till today.

This was to allow the Nigerian Government to file extradition charges and bring up whatever evidence they may have.

The court however ordered the immediate release of Ropo, a German citizen, and ordered the return of her passport.

11.00 pm: Sunday Igboho has been granted access to medical care by the Cour De’appal De Cotonou, Benin Republic.

The activist was granted access on Monday after court sessions which lasted for more than eight hours.

Counsel to the agitator battled to secure bail for their client but the court only granted him access to medical care after the marathon sessions which ended around past 11 pm

9.33 pm: Supporters of Sunday Igboho who were earlier dispersed by Police in Benin Republic have reconverged.

Some of the supporters told The PUNCH that they have reconverged at Marina Roundabout.

It was gathered that the court went on recess around past 7 pm after the lawyers’ argument.

“We are still here. We are at Marina. We will wait until they deliver the judgment,” one of the supporters said.

“We heard the lawyer telling journalists that the court can deliver judgment anytime. We will wait,” another Yoruba Nation agitator added.

08.40 pm: The Police in Benin Republic reportedly dispersed hundreds of Yoruba Nation activists and journalists from the premises of the Cour De’appal De Cotonou, the venue of the hearing of the case against Sunday Igboho.

The policemen came in about seven trucks and dispersed the Yoruba Nation supporters who gathered on the court premises awaiting the position of the court.

4.46 pm: The trial of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho, is currently being tried behind closed doors at the Cour D’Appel De Cotonou.

Journalists and his supporters were barred from the court proceeding.

However, his supporters said they were not harassed nor sent out of the court premises.

02.54 pm: Tension is reportedly building up in the premises of the Court of Appeals in Cotonou over the delay in the trial of Sunday Igboho.

Many supporters from Nigeria as well as those in Benin Republic besieged the court to identify with the Yoruba nation activist as early as 7am but trial has not started as at 2.54pm despite the fact that Igboho has been kept in one of the prosecutors’ rooms.

01.22 pm: The delegations of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, have arrived in Cotonou to observe the trial of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.

12.00 pm: Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho has been brought to court for the continuation of his trial.

Although the activist was brought to the court and kept in a room since 7am, his trial is yet to start as at 11.55 am.

His supporters have besieged the court waiting for the proceedings to commence.

9.00 am: Ropo, the Germany-based wife of Igboho, has arrived at the Cour De’appal De Cotonou, Benin Republic as the court resumes sitting in the case against the activist.

Yoruba monarchs based in Benin Republic as well as other Yoruba Nation supporters are also at the court.

The traditional rulers had met on Sunday and resolved to intervene in the matter.
