Troops Kill 35 Bandits During Operations In Katsina, Zamfara States

Troops of the Nigerian Military have killed 30 bandits in Zamfara state during an operation that also saw them rescue 24 cows and other livestock, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed.

Similarly, the troops fighting against insurgency, in response to information about reprisal attacks by some bandits, killed five of the bandits at Janbako village in Maradun LGA of Zamfara State.

The two victories were recorded during different operations according to information made available to newsmen by the Coordinator Defence Media Operations Major General John Enenche.

The statement while commending the gallant efforts of the troops added that they won’t relent until all forms of insurgency are eliminated in the country.

The DHQ statement reads: “Following credible intelligence on movement of armed bandits with rustled animals at Bungudu LGA of Zamfara State, troops of Forward Operating Base Kekuwuje yesterday 17 January 2021, responded immediately and made contact with bandits. In the course of the encounter 30 armed bandits were neutralised while 24 cows and unspecified number of sheep were recovered.

“Similarly, still on same 17 January 21, troops deployed at Maradun received information of reprisal attack by armed bandits at Janbako village in Maradun LGA of Zamfara State. Troops swiftly mobilized to the area to forestall the reprisal attack. Troops were ambushed short of Janbako village where firefight ensued. The gallant troops overwhelmed the bandits and neutralised 5 of them. Currently troops are in pursuit of fleeing bandits.

“In another development, following a tip off, 2 suspected bandits collaborators named Mustapha Sani and Murtala Sani were arrested at Dungun Muazu village in Sabuwa LGA of Katsina State. Suspects are in custody for further action.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies will sustain the offensive against the enemies of our Nation. We shall not relent until normalcy is restored to all troubled zones of the Country”.

Meanwhile, the killing of four officers of the Nigeria Police Force along the Birnin-Gwari Funtua Highway, Kaduna State, by armed bandits has been confirmed by the police Inspector-General, Mohammed Adamu.

Naija News understands that the officers were ambushed and murdered at the reported route while returning to Kano after a successful operation in Niger State.

Speaking through the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, January 17, Adamu noted that the force men had successfully repelled the attack and neutralised the bandits.

He, however, admitted that four of the officers got killed in the process.
