The killing of four officers of the Nigeria Police Force along the Birnin-Gwari Funtua Highway, Kaduna State, by armed bandits has been confirmed by the police Inspector-General, Mohammed Adamu.

Naija News understands that the officers were ambushed and murdered at the reported route while returning to Kano after a successful operation in Niger State.

Speaking through the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, January 17, Adamu noted that the force men had successfully repelled the attack and neutralised the bandits.

He, however, admitted that four of the officers got killed in the process.

Naija News understands that the personnel, attached to Police Mobile Force – 9 Squadron in Kano paid the supreme price during the attack on Friday, January 15.

The PPRO, however, denied the report that 18 officers were kidnapped, insisting that only 16 were waylaid.

“The personnel successfully repelled the attack and neutralised the bandits, while others scampered into the bush with gunshot injuries,” Mba reiterated.

“Regrettably, four of the officers paid the supreme price during the exchange while an officer is still missing,” he said.

Mba said that the remaining 11, led by their Unit Commander, successfully recovered the bodies and firearms of fallen colleagues, adding that efforts were being intensified to rescue the missing officer.

In another news earlier, the Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has denied the reported abduction of 18 traders by bandits while passing through the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the states, William Anya while reacting to the rumours, denied any such happening and urged members of the public to disregard the news.
