Disability Bill: I Have Fulfilled My Promise To Nigerians With Special Needs – Buhari

President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, noted that he has fulfilled his promise to Nigerians with special needs with the signing of the disability bill.

The President made the submission when he hosted members of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities led by Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq.

They were in the State House in Abuja on a courtesy visit to the President.

In his remarks, President Buhari called on the commission to continue the work he started by signing the disability bill and fulfill the vision.

He also thanked state governors that have enacted the disability laws and called on those yet to do so to enact the bill and establish the disability rights commission.

“I am happy to have fulfilled my promise to the community of Persons with Special Needs, by assenting to the Disability Bill. We have also inaugurated a National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, to take the work to the next level, and implement our vision in full.

I thank the Governors of Plateau, Lagos and Nasarawa States for enacting disability laws and establishing Disability Rights Commissions; I am calling on Governors of Yobe, Kano & Kogi to implement their laws, while those States that are yet to do so should take necessary action,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has directed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to inform all Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) to reverse to tariffs that were applicable in December 2020.

Naija News reports that the directive was made known in a statement by Aaron Artima, the Senior Special Adviser, Media and Communications to the Minister of Power, Mr Saleh Mamman, on Thursday.

He said the order to reversal to the old tariff was to promote a constructive conclusion of the dialogue with the Labour Centres (through the Joint Ad-Hoc Committee).

Speaking further, the Minister of Power debunked reports that electricity tariff had been increased by 50 per cent.
