Terrorism May Likely Continue In Nigeria For 20 years – Buratai

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said that there is a possibility of more terrorist activities in Nigeria for the next 20 years.

In a message posted on his Facebook page, Buratai said: “There is a general misunderstanding of what insurgency and terrorism entail. There is the likelihood of terrorism persisting in Nigeria for another 20 years.”.

However, according to Buratai, “It only depends on the level of escalation and the appropriate responses by all stakeholders both civil and military authorities. Also by both local in international actors”.

He also called on the people of the country to work together to end insecurity.

Buratai statement comes just days after 43 rice farmers were slaughtered in Zabarmari, Borno State.

Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to engage the services of foreign mercenaries in fighting against Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria.

The Borno State Governor made this call on Monday while receiving federal government’s delegation who were in the state to sympathise with the state government and the people of the state over the massacre of some rice farmers in Jere Local Government Area.

Zulum pleaded with the ruling government to pay more attention to insecurity and insurgency in the country. He also made recommendations on how to end the insurgency.
