The ongoing protest against police brutality has resulted in most private and public schools in Oyo state stopping all academic activities on Tuesday morning.

It was gathered that most schools in the state decided to shut down due to the hardship students and pupils witnessed on account of the #EndSARS protest in major parts of the state on Monday.

They also said the safety and security of the children while the protests last informed the decision.

Naija News reports that Governor Seyi Makinde is yet to give an official directive ordering schools to shut down.

Recall that the Lagos State Government led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on Monday evening ordered the closure of public and private schools indefinitely in the southwest state.

Naija News reports that the closure of schools in Lagos was announced in a press statement on Monday by the state’s Head of Public Affairs, Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi.

The statement which was titled, ‘Lagos directs students to stay at home’, quoted  Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, the Commissioner for Education, as saying that the schools were shut down over “tension generated by the anti-SARS protests.”

The statement read in part, “The Lagos State Government has directed all pupils/students in public and private schools to stay at home following the tension generated by the anti-SARS protests.

“A new date of resumption for all classes will be announced as soon as possible.”

The Commissioner for Education who noted that “the safety of the pupils/students, parents and all staff working in schools is paramount at this critical period”, advised parents to “keep an eye on their wards and not allow them to be used as willing tools in the hands of those who might want to hijack the protests to unleash mayhem on the society”.
