Kim Kardashian West and several other celebrities have announced that they will boycott their social networking sites in protest of the “hate, propaganda and misinformation” comments being spread.
“Misinformation shared on social media has a serious impact,” Kardashian said in a message published on Tuesday.
This is another step in support of the #StopHateforProfit campaign organized by activist civil society groups.
Celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jennifer Lawrence, and singer Katy Perry will boycott their 24-hour social networking site on Wednesday.
Filmmaker Ashaton Kutcher, who has millions of followers, also joined the fray and said the “These tools were not built to spread hate [and] violence”.
There has been a lot of debate over how to end hate speech on social media.
