Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, has been cleared by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) to contest the governorship election.
Naija News reports that Ajayi had defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) in June and joined the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where he contested and lost the party’s governorship primary election to Mr Eyitayo Jegede.
It was reported that Ajayi had been meeting with the leader of the ZLP, Olusegun Mimiko, on plans to join the party.
The NEC of ZLP had met during the weekend to discuss the application sent to it by the Ondo Deputy Governor.
Confirming the clearance while speaking to the Sun, the state chairman of the ZLP, Hon. Joseph Akinlaja said that Ajayi is now the governorship candidate of the party.
Akinlaja said Ajayi would formally join the ZLP at an elaborate event on Tuesday.
