Resident Doctors Suspend Five-day Warning Strike, Resume Work

Medical doctors in Cross River launched a strike on Monday until further notice to protest against the attitude of the authorities in the management of the health crisis due to the coronavirus.

It is a new showdown that opposes the Nigerian authorities and health professionals. While official figures from the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCDC) predict zero cases of contamination in Cross River State, doctors contradict this version and accuse the government of hiding cases of coronavirus infection.

Health care workers say they are in danger and accuse ” the government of Cross River of having given up its responsibilities of tracing infections and caring for the five infected people “. Local Health Minister Betta Edu called on doctors and medical staff to resume work, saying ” this strike is killing the patients it claims to protect “.

Since the start of the epidemic in the most populous country in Africa, several strike movements have been launched by health unions to denounce either the poor working conditions or the management of the epidemic.
